MARTIN COUNTY, PA — Nero, a 2-year-old Czech German shepherd handled by Cpl. Bryan Parrett, was sworn in as a K9 officer in 2016.
A man wanted by Pennsylvania authorities slashed someone with a machete and fled on foot before being captured by Martin County Sheriff’s deputies and a K-9, the agency said.
The Sheriff’s Office helicopter assisted in the search. On the ground, Sheriff’s deputy Ryan Pearlman sent his K-9, Nero, to track the man. The dog found the man and deputies took him into custody.
Nero and Parrett completed 600 hours of patrol and narcotics detection training. “I plan of putting a lot of people in jail with him,” Parrett said. The dog, Parrett’s second K9 partner, lives with the corporal’s family in Port St. Lucie. “He’s a big bad police dog, but only when he needs to be.”
